Institute Launch, 1.4m hectares of projects, and more

Dear Earthshot friends and allies,

The world has changed in a multitude of nuanced ways; record temperatures in Antarctica, war between Ukraine and Russia, pending SEC regulations requiring climate disclosures. And yet our team remains centered and optimistic, witnessing an unprecedented level of financial and cultural will towards addressing the climate and ecological crisis both addressing the symptoms (CO2 in the atmosphere) and fundamental drivers including inequality, land agency, and relationship with the rest of nature.

The Earthshot team just finished a beautiful team retreat in the Santa Cruz mountains, a time for ~25 of us to again drop into coherence while we’ve been doubling the team every two months. The retreat was framed by Joanna Macy’s Work that Reconnects, a narrative about the upcoming Great Turning for humanity, honoring our history while creating space for practical systemic changes that bring humans back into integrity with the rest of nature and each other.

Project pipeline: In service of this mission, Earthshot supports land stewards to develop their carbon projects to investability, and matching with corporates and investors who secure long-term pre-purchase agreements. We now have one of the world’s leading pipelines of the highest quality nature-based carbon projects, with 42 projects over 1.4m hectares, including Earthshot-operated projects in Panama, Brazil, Peru, and the US. For land stewards and investors/corporates interested in connecting, please email our partnerships team at partner@earthshot.eco.

Updates:

  • Launch for the Earthshot Institute - April 22 RSVP: https://lu.ma/ei
  • The Earthshot Institute is our nonprofit sister organization, holding all our open scientific models and citizen science initiatives. The kickoff on Earth Day for our next 6-month lab cycle is not to be missed; ~6 multidisciplinary teams will be taking on ecological questions around forest regrowth, bison, beaver dams and hydrological cycles, coastal forest ecosystems, and more.
  • Team and Hiring: In October we had 2 full-time team members; now we’re approaching 30, with open positions: https://boards.greenhouse.io/earthshotlabs. We’ll be ramping up for another big hiring push soon, particularly for our product and science teams (full stack engineers, ML/deep learning modelers). This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a deeply meaningful ecological mission with a heart-centered and world-class team. Please introduce us to any world class technologists you know that might be interested!
  • Partnerships: As part of our commitment to reciprocity, indigenous land agency, and sacred relationship with nature, we are announcing a new partnership with The Fountain. We are working closely with them to create an ethical framework for project development and land rematriation protocol that we intend to become an industry standard for carbon credit issuance. If you are interested, please reach out to learn more about ceremonial delegations to build global allyship, including a global indigenous gathering in Greenland called focalized by Uncle Angaangaq Angakkorsuaq.

We’re always looking to build allyship with partners and new team members; get in touch any time to explore collaboration! contact@earthshot.eco
